When your baby’s stools are hard and dry and therefore diffcult to pass, your baby's rectal wall may be torn, causing him pain. Signs that your baby is constipated include:

- crying, grunting,
- strained face and drawing his legs up while attempting to pass the stool
- blood from the anus
• Irritability, abdominal pain and gastric discomfort
• A hard abdomen
• Abdominal pain which decreases after a bowel movement
• Hard-to-pass, pellet-like stools

Infant Constipation Causes & Treatment

The most common cause of infant constipation is switching from breatfed milk to formula. Formula that is high in iron can particullarly cause constipation.

Some natural remedies include:
More food, especial food that is fiber-rich or contains sorbitol, a nondigestible sugar that passes through the body to the colon and causes water to be retained or drawn into the stool mass.. Try giviing your little one:
• Peaches
• Apricots
• Pears
• Plums
• Peas.
• Prunes
• Apple Juice

Also try to eliminate cheeses for a few days or foods high in iron.

Check you are making formula correctly

If your baby is on formula milk, you should follow the instructions on the package carefully. Making the mixture too thick by putting in more than the recommended amount of powder can lead to constipation and other medical problems
